University Partnerships Initiative

Body

The University Partnership Initiative focused on the economic linkages between universities, technology and entrepreneurship and ways in which American institutions of learning can work together with their Palestinian counterparts to create a mutually beneficial economic ecosystem capable of collaboration and innovation. The Telos group, the Aspen Institute's U.S. Palestinian Partnership (UPP) and the Case Foundation were all foundational supporters of this initiative and helped facilitate the delegation's trip to the West Bank.

While in Palestine, the delegation discussed the Education for Employment challenges faced by young, educated, job-seeking Palestinian men and women. Through a series of meetings with local Palestinian business leaders and selected Palestinian youth leaders, the delegation and their local counterparts worked to identify potential programs which could better provide the youth with relevant skills directly in response to the present and growing job market needs. The group also discussed possible ways collaborative and mutually beneficial economic relationships between Palestinian and American young entrepreneurs could improve the entrepreneurial environment in Palestine and lend needed support to young business people in Palestine. ConnectME Founder and CEO, Randa Masri moderated a round table event at Al Quds University during the delegation's trip, at which delegation members and their Palestinian counterparts discussed the education for employment gap in Palestine and ways to fill it together.
